The initial order for 40 modular trains was awarded to
ALSTOM in October 2003, 40 more being ordered earlier this
year. For the 80 trains, a total of 310 passenger cars will be
manufactured, delivery being scheduled to run from January 2007
through to October 2009.

This 100% ALSTOM technology train was manufactured in Santa
Perpetua, in collaboration with other sites, namely Charleroi
(Belgium), in charge of supplying traction equipment,
Reichshoffen and Villeurbanne (France), in charge of the Train
Control and Monitoring Systems, as well as Montreal (Canada),
which provided the video-information systems.

The RENFE is currently modernising its commuter fleet, these
ALSTOM-built trains forming part of the operator’s new
CIVIA platform, which aims to create a new passenger transport
concept based on comfort, improved facilities and high
reliability.
