New Virgin train: an ALSTOM-built PENDOLINO is shown at

Already working successfully in other European countries,
including Italy, Germany, Spain and Switzerland, this is the
first time ALSTOMs proven
Pendolino
high speed tilting train technology will be used in the
UK. Designed to operate at speeds of up to 140 mph, and with up
to 50,000 miles between servicing, the Pendolino fleet will
reduce West Coast Main Line journey times by as much as 23% and
bring new standards of comfort and service to rail
passengers.

ALSTOM has already delivered 7 trains which are being used for
testing, commissioning and training, and has up to 40 cars a week
under production in order to meet Virgins delivery
dates.

Speaking at todays event at Euston, ALSTOM Transport UK
Senior Vice President, Roger MacDonald said, 'We are delighted to
see Virgins Pendolino on public display for the very first
time. The entire workforce at our Washwood Heath facility, and
elsewhere within the ALSTOM Transport Sector, are totally
committed to successfully delivering the Pendolinos for the
Virgin West Coast Main Line, and to supporting this most
prestigious contract throughout its life.'
