Our presence in Algeria

For over 30 years, Alstom has been a key player in the Algerian landscape, forging strong ties with the country through its two entities: Alstom Algeria and the joint venture Cital, which comprises 51% Algerian partners and 49% Alstom. More than 670 local talents have been brought together, reflecting a commitment to the development of the community.

Alstom has transformed urban and regional transport in Algeria, delivering iconic projects such as the tramways in Algiers, Constantine, Oran, Ouargla, Sétif, Sidi Bel Abbes, and currently in Mostaganem, on behalf of the Algiers Metro Company (EMA). The contribution also includes the supply of 17 bi-mode Coradia regional trains for the national railways (SNTF), as well as the electrification of the Algiers suburb with ANESRIF (National Agency for Studies and Monitoring of Railway Investment Implementation), further strengthening connectivity throughout the country.

Alstom has also been involved in the implementation of mainline signaling projects in Algeria: after the Saida-Moulay Slissen, Tabia-Mechria, and Birtouta Zeralda projects, the Saida-Tiaret project is a key development. Spanning approximately 153 km of single track, it is currently 75% complete. This line will include two passenger stations, two freight stations, and six passing stations.

Developing industrial and engineering activities in Algeria is on of Alstom’s key priorities. The focus is on transferring technology and enhancing local skills to make this expertise an exportable asset through international contracts. Alstom is dedicated to meeting Algeria's growing mobility needs while supporting urban development, and particularly focused on reducing congestion in Algiers and implementing an extensive railway development program, targeting over 15,000 km by 2035. Together, these efforts are building a sustainable future for transport in Algeria, where every journey contributes to progress.

"We are committed to promoting a sustainable railway future and playing a key role in the development of the regional network of 15,000 kilometers of railways. Our objectives include not only alleviating congestion in the capital but also improving urban transportation across the entire national territory. Supporting the local industry and ensuring technology transfer remain at the heart of our mission."
