28 August, 2024 – At Alstom, one of the foremost priorities of our Community Investment Policy is to meet social needs through the collection and donation of cash and goods, and through dedicated volunteering.

Due to the high cost of living, many care facilities that depend on individual and corporate donations are struggling to provide essential support to those in need. In response to a plea for assistance from the Vita Nova Centre—a non-profit organization in Springs, South Africa, that aids 114 residents with severe intellectual and physical disabilities—Alstom Ubunye stepped in to offer a helping hand through a donation of much-needed groceries, including food, cleaning materials, health and hygiene packs, and many other essential items.

The residents, whose ages range from 3 to 81 years, often arrive at the centre lacking family support or experiencing abandonment. The financial strain on the centre has deepened due to a decline in donor support over the years, making it increasingly difficult to meet the basic needs of residents.

"We believe that eradicating hunger is not just a charitable endeavour but a shared responsibility."

"We are truly speechless at Alstom Ubunye's remarkable generosity. The donation of groceries during this critical time has left us profoundly grateful and overwhelmed; the items will last us for many months. Your support means the world to us and to the lives of those we serve at the Vita Nova Centre," said Michelle Immelman, Director at the Vita Nova Centre.

As a global leader, Alstom understands the profound impact of local engagement and is deeply committed to uplifting the communities surrounding our operations.

"We believe that eradicating hunger is not just a charitable endeavour but a shared responsibility. By developing a strong local presence and actively supporting organizations like the Vita Nova Centre, we strive to ensure that no one is left behind. Together, we can help alleviate the burdens faced by vulnerable individuals and foster a future where everyone has access to the nourishment and care they need to thrive," said Zaibonisha Turkey, CSR Champion at Alstom Southern Africa.
