Launch of the work on the Hanze line

Prorail awarded HanzaRailTeam -a consortium made up of
Alstom, VolkerRai, Arcadis and Strukton- the contract in May
2009. This contract includes the laying and electrification of
45 km of track, the setting up of acoustic barriers and the
installation of both an ATB automatic train protection system
and a level 2 European Rail Traffic Management System.

The line will come into service in December 2012. It will
reduce the journey time between the two towns to 30 minutes, as
opposed to the current 1 hour 45 minutes.
