After a preliminary introduction in the stateroom of the
Regional Council in Palazzo Cesaroni, the ceremony continued in
the railway station of Fontivegge.

The new regional train produced by Alstom for Ferrovia Centrale
Umbra S.r.l. (FCU), the company that has been managing public
railway transport services in Umbria since 1915, was designed
to meet the development requirements of the Region outside
Perugia. 51.9 metres long and 2.9 metres wide, with 145 seats,
it can travel at a maximum speed of 160 km/h. The train was
designed according to new comfort, safety and accessibility
standards. The reduction of the difference in level between the
train and station platform make passengers’ boarding
easier, while a door equipped with a mobile platform
facilitates the access to people with reduced mobility. The
trains will enter into commercial service in September at the
end of the test rides. A total of 200 Coradia trains have been
sold in Italy.

A multifunctional area for the transport of bicycles and
luggage is available in each train. Among on-board services:
video-surveillance system, internal bright information screens
that may be seen from any place inside the train, sound system,
notices in Braille, 220 Volt sockets for mobile phones and
laptops, etc.

The following Alstom Italian production sites were involved in
the creation of the train: Savigliano (Cuneo) for project
management, Colleferro (Rome) for train manufacture, Sesto San
Giovanni (Milan) for safety equipment, Verona for
passengers’ information systems and Bologna for
signalling systems.

Umbria is one of the smallest italian region in the Center of
Italy (8 456 km², 880 000 inhabitants).
