Alstom has signed the second extension of the ongoing full operation and
maintenance (O&M) contract for the Kuala Langat combined cycle
power plant in Malaysia with Genting Sanyen Power Sdn. Bhd. (GSP), an
independent Malaysian power producer.

Under the terms of the contract, Alstom will provide full O&M support for the complete plant. This includes an Alstom team of 45 people on site permanently. For major maintenance (C-Inspections), specialized experts from Alstom's worldwide pool of service personnel are recruited temporarily.

The plant was designed and built by Alstom and has been in commercial operation under the supervision of the on-site Alstom operation and maintenance team since 1995. During the major overhauls between 2002 and 2005, all the three existing GT13E2 type gas turbines were upgraded to GT13E2M. These were the first gas turbines to be upgraded during regular major overhauls. The turbine upgrade comprised the exchange of the complete turbine blading on both rotor and stator.

During the latest major overhaul on one gas turbine and a two-day plant shutdown in January 2007, the MCL-Switching Option was carried out. This feature allows choosing between the MXL-Operation Mode (extended lifetime with an inspection interval of 36,000 EOH*) and the MCL-Operation Mode (maximum continuous load, with an inspection interval of 24,000 EOH*).

This second extension is to integrate the flexible operation concept of the gas turbines into the existing O&M Agreement. It is also a testimony of the successful cooperation between Genting Sanyen Power and Alstom, with both companies working closely together at all levels.
