ALSTOM has delivered the ventilation and ticketing systems for
a Rio de Janeiro metro station in an exceptionally rapid time of
four months.

The systems were delivered for the Siqueira Campos station,
located in the Copacabana district of Rio de Janeiro in December
2002.

It was a great challenge, said Paulo Nakumo,
ALSTOMs project manager for the contract, because
average delivery time is six to eight months, but we managed to
reduce this to a little over 120 days.

The contract for the systems was signed on July 30, 2002 with
a Brazilian construction and public works company, Andrade
Guitierrez. Rio Trilhos, the rail authority in Rio de Janeiro, is
the final customer.

The Siqueira Campos station, with capacity for about 80,000
passengers per day, began operating in January. The opening of
the station is part of an expansion the Rio subways line
1.

ALSTOM is also the leader of the consortium in charge of all
the signaling on line 1, for which a contract was closed directly
with Rio Trilhos in early 2002. Besides supplying the signaling
system, developed by ALSTOM in São Paulo, the company is
also responsible for the radio system, including its
installation.

With more than 35 product lines and a presence in over 60
countries, ALSTOM's Transport Sector offers cutting-edge
products and services to four distinct types of customers:
urban transit authorities and operators; intercity passenger
rail operators and rolling stock owners; rail freight
operators; and intercity railway infrastructure owners.
ALSTOM's Transport Sector, with 4.4 billion euros in sales in
2001, is among the world's leading suppliers to the railway
industry.
