ALSTOM has signed an exclusive worldwide licence
agreement with EIG Inc. of the US, for its carbon dioxide
(CO
2) capture process.

The licence agreement of this patented process covers its
development and commercialisation by ALSTOMs
Environmental Controls Systems business.
The carbon capture process is based on chilled ammonia
a procedure that cools the flue gas, increasing
absorbtion and allowing low energy desorbtion of the CO
2in a very pure concentration at pressure. In demonstrations
through independent research institutes, the process has
demonstrated the potential to be highly effective and
significantly lower in total cost than conventional amine or
improved amine processes. Tests have demonstrated that the
process can yield high purity CO
2at 1500 psi with capture rates in excess of
90%.

ALSTOM is now moving to a plant demonstration phase at a
substantial scale and in real operating environments and it is
confident that this phase will further reinforce the results
obtained in earlier demonstrations.
EIG Inc. and its President, Dr Eli Gal, will remain
closely involved in the development and commercialisation of
the process.
  This licence agreement demonstrates ALSTOMs
aggressive programme for the development of cost-effective and
practical emissions control technologies for coal-fired power
generation and other combustion processes, which take into
account its customers requirements for cost of
electricity and emissions constraints.
Among such initiatives on CO2is the successful completion of pilot plant tests in the US
of ALSTOMs oxyfuel firing carbon capture technology,
announced in October last year.
In parallel, ALSTOM is
actively participating with many partners in the European
Technology Platform for Zero Emissions Fossil Fuel Power
Generation, which is setting the vision for the technology and
market measures that will be necessary to shape Europe's fossil
fuel power generation industry to address the zero emissions
issue.Should you have any media inquiries about this press release, do not hesitate to contact our team.
