ALSTOM has been awarded a 26 million euro contract by Louisa Environmental Power Partners to supply air pollution control systems for MidAmerican Energy Companys 700 MW coal-fired power plant, located in Muscatine, Iowa.

The state-of-the-art air pollution control system is designed to reduce emissions of particulate matter and sulphur dioxide and will, in addition, enable the plant to proactively comply with forthcoming environmental requirements.  Under the contract, ALSTOM will supply two ALSTOM spray dryer absorber dry flue gas desulphurisation (DFGD) plants, two pulse-jet fabric filters for particulate removal and associated equipment. ALSTOMs spray dryer absorber technology was chosen as the preferred solution since it achieves low lifecycle costs and reliability for environmental compliance.  The project is scheduled for completion in January 2008.  With some 70 years experience in air pollution control, ALSTOMs combination of spray dryer absorbers with fabric filters on coal-fired boilers has demonstrated that the dry flue gas desulphurisation (DFGD) process is proven technology for high SO2 removal at low capital cost.
