The new hydro plant, consisting of an ALSTOM horizontal
Kaplan Turbine, will be installed down stream from the Tumut 3
Power Station at the Jounama Dam spillway.

The plant will recover 50GWh/Yr of energy currently being
lost from spilled water with no impact on the existing water
management of the Snowy Mountains Scheme. To ensure minimal
environmental impact, the compact power station will be located
in the Blowering Reservoir and has been designed to account for
seasonal flooding.

Construction of the plant is due to commence in early 2006,
utilising components manufactured by ALSTOM in Australia and
Spain. Commercial operation is expected by mid 2007 adding
additional generation capacity to Snowy Hydros supply
capabilities.

Chris Raine, ALSTOMs Australian and New Zealand
Country President, said; The contract with Snowy Hydro
Limited is very pleasing and the result of working closely with
the client on an alliance styled basis, engaging an open
optimization program between all parties, enabling each to
maximize cost savings and functional specification.
