ALSTOM to supply equipment to Heimifeng pumped storage project in China

ALSTOM has received an order from Chinas Dongfang Electrical Machinery
Co. for the supply of hydroelectric equipment to the Heimifeng pumped
storage plant, located in the southern Hunan province of China.

Heimifeng plant, owned by Wuling Electric Power Co. Ltd, will be composed of four 300 MW reversible pump-turbine/motor-generator units. It is the first pumped storage scheme in Hunan province. When completed, the plant will play an important role in providing base and peak-load power and greatly ease the power shortage in the province.

As sub-contractor to Dongfang, ALSTOM will supply, erect and commission one complete unit and provide components for the other three units, as well as technical support.

ALSTOM equipment will be manufactured in the companys factories in China, France and Switzerland. The first unit is scheduled for commercial operation at the end of 2008 and the last in the fourth quarter of 2009.

This award is an important milestone in the recognition by our Chinese customers of the capability and performance of Tianjin to supply ALSTOMs most advanced designs of hydro turbines and generators.

Besides Hemifeng, ALSTOMs other pumped storage references in China include Guangzhou I (4 x 306 MW), Shahe (2 x 51 MW), Zhanghewan (4 x 255 MW) Bailianhe ( 4 x 306 MW), Huizou (8 x 306 MW) and Baoquan (4 x 306 MW).
