ALSTOM has been awarded an EPC contract to supply a turnkey 310MW GT13E2
gas-turbine-based combined cycle power plant at Kwinana, south of
Perth, Western Australia.

The order has been placed by independent power producer New Gen Power Ltd, a specialist gas-fired generation company owned by ERM Power and Babcock & Brown.

ALSTOM will design, supply, install and commission the entire power plant consisting of 1 x GT13E2 gas turbine, 1 x 160MW steam turbine, condenser, HRSG, step up transformers, plant control systems, HV switchyard, civil works and balance of plant.

The site for the new plant is located adjacent to the 240MW combined cycle Cockburn power station, built and commissioned by ALSTOM in 2003 and, like Cockburn, the new plant will be used to generate base load power.

Construction of the plant will begin with site preparation in early 2006 and commercial operation expected in late 2008. When complete, the plant will assist with meeting the ever increasing electricity demands of Western Australia and assist Western Power, the state owned utility and major electricity retailer, to manage its increasing base load energy requirements.

This order follows a contract won by ALSTOM for three of the same units in April last year for the Braemar Power Project in Queensland. The GT13E2 fleet has now accumulated more than 2,600,000 operating hours.

ALSTOMs Australian and New Zealand Country president, Chris Raine, said: We are delighted to have been selected for repeat business with New Gen Power and to be involved again in the further development of the expanding West Australian power industry. The project reinforces ALSTOMs significant local presence and experience in the supply of turnkey plant and, together with our ongoing Power Service activities, underscores our leading position as a technology and plant supplier to the power generation industry in Australia. ALSTOM is committed to Australias growing energy market and expects to participate in future projects required to meet the increasing demand for electricity throughout the country.
