Today, the 26th February, Alstom presented a proposal of a restructuring plan for its Spanish onshore wind power business to the members of its European Works Forum, with the objective of adapting to the profound crisis which grips the sector in this country.

On the one hand, the economic crisis and the absence of a stable regulatory framework have slowed down internal demand. On the other hand, exports to other markets are still limited, either because of local production requirements, or because of the fierce competition pushing prices as a result of global overcapacity. In this situation and given the lack of workload at the Spanish facilities, the Alstom Group foresees restructuring its wind power energy business in Spain, with the aim of adapting it to the new market reality and of guaranteeing its future sustainability.

The rationalisation plan of the production process envisages the closure of the As Somozas (Coruña) plant, whose electrical equipment production will move to the Buñuel (Navarra) plant, and of the Zamora plant, dedicated to the manufacture of towers. The maintenance division (O&M) will focus its activity on high added value services to our customers.

The restructuring process will also affect the central offices, whose staff will be adjusted to the new operational reality.

In total, the adjustment plan foresees the reduction of 373 jobs in Spain.

According to the plan presented today, Spain will continue to be the knowledge base and technical development center for Alstom Wind. The Group confirms its commitment to strengthen the global R&D center, located in Barcelona, where the world headquarters of the wind power division will remain located.

In accordance with collective agreements of the company, the implementation of this plan will be closely linked to the information and consultation processes for employee representatives at European and national levels. The company is committed to helping all affected employees with every available means.
