ALSTOM to supply new trams and maintenance for
Melbourne

ALSTOM has signed contracts worth a total of 67 million
euros with tram operator Metrolink for the supply and
maintenance of new trams for the Yarra network of Melbourne,
Australia.

Under the terms of the contracts, ALSTOM will provide 31
CITADISTM tramsets, plus five on option. ALSTOM will also be
responsible for maintaining the new fleet over 15 years.

The full low-floor CITADISTM 300 vehicles will measure 23m
in length, operate at 70 km/hour and carry up to 197
passengers. The first delivery is set for the end of September
2001.

Michel Moreau, President of ALSTOM's Transport Sector, said,

capable of offering Australia the best rail solution.'

This order represents a new success for ALSTOM's family of
CITADISTM trams. To date, more than 300 tramsets have been
ordered by cities including Montpellier, Orléans, Lyons,
Valenciennes, Bordeaux and Paris in France, and by Dublin
(Ireland) and Rotterdam (Netherlands).
